Lightbulb New game from Anet?

Searched for "pay to play", "arena net subscription", "new game", "different guild wars" and the search engine came back with nothing. Also went through 4 pages on Off-Topic and the only thing close was this: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10059560

I was wondering what people would think about a new/similar game from Anet that was like Guild Wars except based on a subscription (same as buying chapters every 6 months so... $8.33 US/month I think) and had it's own new team so that the current GW is uneffected? A bigger world and expansions down the line with time for them to fix little things (z-axis for the game engine, glitches, etc) and add more to the game in general. After reading the Guild Wars insider thread it made me think about this because they are always trying to add new things.

What do you guys think? Would you play it you think? If you comment, please explain a bit. I am curious on how people would think they would like it based on how GW is now.
I am used to the negativity around here so I ignore narrowminded/purely negtive posts like it makes me money.

GW is not worth paying for. It's ok for a freebie but I would never pay to play unless massive changes were made.

You are paying to play if you buy each new chapter. It's just a different format.

Now, obviously most of the major problems with Guild Wars right now would be easily fixed if there was a subscription fee, because with the extra income ArenaNet could have the staff to more effectively deal with things such as the z-axis. As it is, they don't.

This game is published/developed by NCsoft, but who all were on the development staff?
http://www.plaync.com/us/games/aion/videos.html

It looks interesting, and in many ways similar to guild wars in character look and fighting gameplay feel. Perhaps some people from Anet were involved with it?

That's what I am getting at. As it is I wouldn't pay a subscription either right now. I want to be able to not buy a chapter if it sucks. With the extra income and not having to make an almost new game every year they would have time to make it better I assume. Actually these are what I figure would happen before I pay monthly for a GW game:

- Much larger world, maybe a couple of large continents
- More character slots
- Way more storage (I have played UO and that is a lot of storage)
- Game engine without major problems
- Expansions that give access to extra content (continents, skills, races if it would work, etc)
- Outstanding glitches would be remedied faster
- Same gameplay or similar ( 8 skills, heroes, instances, etc)
- Permanent minigames and little things like that

I just think that if they didn't have the whole new chapter to make they could make a really innovative game since they keep findind new things to put in the current games. Maybe I am too optimistic.

Will have to look at that link later, I have to get to class.

well you should check out dungeon runners. It appears to be a very similar game to guildwars only it's more geared towards your single character rather than a large team.

Still in beta but if it comes out and it's also free to play online, I would definately try it out.

OMG! If Guild Wars had that kind of storage capacity available to players, the in-game economics would flat-line. On the account I used to have on UO, I had over 500 objects in just my house alone. Not to mention what I had stashed away in my bank vault and what I carried with me.

I would pay for GW if they made the instanced pve areas not instanced, so everyone who was there could see each other. They could pull it off with a few changes

I would not pay subscription for GW simply because it is not worth it. why would you want to pay to play a game that you can complete in 1 week (some ppl can do it even faster)?

if they made it P2P i think i would only pay to play it for one week. If any new areas (eg sorrow's furnace) come out later on i'd go back in and pay for another week to play that area then stop paying.

What he means is you'd pay by like the 6-months. But it would still be only like 8.99 a month or w/e. Besides if they did do this it would add for alot more gameplay, meaning more people, more monsters, more quests, etc.. But if they did this they might start to lean too much towards other games, which would pretty much ruin GW in my opinion since its pretty distinct from other games. They would definitely have to add a whole lot more though for this too even have a chance. Because not very many people will play the same 3 chapters but with non-instanced areas.

I think some of you guys are missing what I was getting at. The game wouldn't HAVE to be guild wars, just the good stuff from it but on a larger/better scale that would warrant a subscription. Right now I wouldn't pay more than the $50 per game since each chapter is almost completely new and I might not like it.

I was wondering what you guys thought of a game similar to Guild Wars but with the pay-to-play perks like more storage (which I am fighting with now with 8 characters), multiple characters on different servers and significant improvements/fixes to the game. I think Anet doesn't have the time for that stuff since they have to pump out new games every year instead of crating a ginormous game and refining it and adding on features regularly.

I looked at Aion and that game looks frickin' SWEET. If that turns out good I will get that since I don't have any subscription games and don't play much beyond GW. So many online games to look at it is getting complicated.

Completely agreed. That and character slots would be my only requirements. I hate the, I step through that portal I'm all alone. With the uninstanced it's so much more fun because you never know when you see that guy from the top PvP guild go by or you see Sno or Racthoh run by. It's so much more fun that way.

For some reason, it is easier for me to pay 50$ for something once, then to pay 10$ monthly or anything montly really, I don't know why - But i find it hard to deal with credit card/cell phone bills each month - and thats why I don't like games that have a montly fee. It's annoying for some reason. Can't explain it.

But, It would be cool if the game WAS guild wars, and not WOW, but had extra storage, and character slots. I don't really care about how big it is, beacuse I am in college and I don't have a lot of extra time, and I want enough time to get though each chapter at least once, In size, its perfect for me right now.

You dont HAVE to buy new chapters.... you HAVE to pay for other MMORPGs. Besides the new chapters add loads of new and interesting content. And WoW only has one of them.....
